Description
Colorized photo from 1941
Original title: The bar at Palm Tavern
Photographer: Russell Lee
Location: 446 East 47th Street in Chicago, Illinois
This is the Palm Tavern, it was in business from 1931 to 2006. Owned by James Knight, then later bought by Gerri Oliver, a waitress that used to work there.
I liked the guys in the front. I can't tell if the lady with the hat is hiding or just looking away. The white guy I think is the photographer's assistant as he shows up in a number of these bar scenes. Always as a background character.
I found a few postcards that might have been related but none really helped. Palm leaves are green and the rest of the colors come from color swatches.
The restaurant lasted till 2006, where it was torn down really fast. Gerri Oliver lived till 2020 at a 101 years old.
