Artist's Description
Colorized photo from 1922
Original Title: Fire Layout
Location: 775 12th St NW, Washington, DC
Somewhere there is a fire, and the men are at the ready. Using only their sleeved arms, they grab the pole to slide down. It takes practice to slide down. You can't let your skin touch the pole or you may stick to the pole. And care must be taken so you don't land on the person below you.
This is a rather old firehouse, if you look on the floor you'll see floor grates. These grates collect extra water so they can use that to fill the trucks. However they were also once called pee troughs, because the horses were stored here and well, they peed, though it's unknown if it was enough to fill up a tank or not.
About Mike Savad
My name is Mike Savad, I create one of a kind images. Photo realistic, is what people think of first. I specialize in job themes, such as Pharmacist, Doctor, Firemen, Lawyer, etc. Steampunk is another favorite. I'm certain you will find something that you will like. My art is inspired by Norman Rockwell and Paintings from the time of the Renaissance. Be sure to visit my Scene in Color section. I expertly restore and colorize black and white images. See the past come alive with color. Each image is painstakingly cleaned and repaired, colors are researched and shaded in. Images are designed to coordinate with the rest of my collection. The past was far more colorful than you would have imagined. Want something fun to do? Sometimes I hide...

I love how masterfully you turned this great old photo into a work of art! I'm putting this in my favorites (which I do very selectively) in order to visit it again whenever I wish to remember my fireman uncle Billy.
Mike Savad replied:
While probably a unique and radical idea, you can buy the image, place it on your wall, and always remember him, even in a power out. ---Mike Savad MikeSavad.com
