Description
Colorized photo from 1939
Original Title: Farm boy at pop stand
Photographer: Arthur Rothstein
Location: Lamoillie, Iowa
I looked high and low for both the machine and the poster, and couldn't find anything. One site showed how the machine worked, it was basically a soda Pez dispenser. The warm one went in on one side, and a cold one came out the other side, the center was filled with ice.
Yet as strange as the machine is, I couldn't find one online, I chose red because that seems to be a common color for these things. Same with the 7up, couldn't find that exact girl, just things sort of like it. The soda I could find, or at least the bottle caps, for the most part they should be accurate.
As for the image, the photographer used a small super nova to light it. I did what I could to tone it down a bit, so it didn't look like he was having a close encounters moment.
The machine is covered in soda drool, as they popped the top off to open it. And the base must have poured out on the floor or something, I see no drip pan. I do wonder if the photographer paid for the soda so he could get a shot of him drinking.
