I think no one should forget about places like this. The neighborhood meat market is a dying breed, grocery stores sell meat these days. I think one of the reasons its not as common now, is the FDA. Meat and window heat don't really go together. If you look at the ground, you can see a lot of dark spots coming out of the door. Old places like this had bloody floors covered in sawdust... eww.
I loved the picture though, its a touch of that Americana you don't see any more. And its why I spent extra time making it work. There was a lot of mold issues on this, so much that I had to repair the molding and more or less replace the sign. Filling it all in with a solid color before I could start.
I also toned down the reflections. You can partly see the photographer in the original, right around where it says pork. Check out the fresh rabbits hanging on the side, can you imagine what all of that smells like in the rooms above?
