Description
Colorized photo from 1906
Original Title: 12,000HP Compound pump, Calumet and Hecla stam mill
Location: Oak 5 St, Calmut Lake, Linden, Michigan
This is a large water pump for a copper crushing plant. I thought it was just simply neat to look at. Its quite large, you can see the scale by all the chairs on the different levels. And for some reason they are very clean, there is a broom on every level.
The original photographer shot this through a window, and as a result left a huge reflection of the town and it didn't look good there. It took a while but I was able to remove most of it (using time travel and matches, best not to check the history of the town). The didn't match the fantasy look this machine has.
Its hard to know if it was colorful back then, some pumps have more color than others, but it did look painted. There are a number of ladders and staircases in this, its interesting to see how they moved around this place.
The plant itself was built in the 1880s, it was put out of commission in 1930-40 or so.
