For the longest time, the general store was the center of town of sorts. It wasn't just a place to buy food, it was a place to hang out. Be with your friends and chat. Not all of them had a pool table tough, as that would take up a lot of space, but many were roomy inside, so maybe they did.
Men will come to hide in here, hiding from chores or school work. Many others thought that a pool hall would bring trouble, that's right my friends trouble with a capital T and that rhymes with P and that stands for pool!
Often these stores would have a bench of some stools to sit on, but with a large pool table in the way, they must have removed them. People were left to sit on barrels, home made seats and I guess the pool table. But I bet it would be pretty hard to play with a rear on the table. Certainly didn't need a seventh hole.
Notice the rabbit wire on the window in the back, that may have been there to keep stray balls from hitting the cars and such. I believe that is the front of the store, so a ball could hit a curious customer looking through the window.
