Original Title: Making flags, Brooklyn Navy Yard
Photographer: Bain News
Location: 41 Flushing Ave, Brooklyn, NY
The original was a nightmare to work with. Covered in scratches and a lot of dirt. Even worse, there was a lot of glare and light pollution. And on top of that, there were these weird zebra like stripes over the whole thing, like a tie dye t-shirt.
I couldn't find any real info about this scene, other than they had a flag shop here till at least 1940. They made a range of flags here, from huge to small. Its unknown if they made more than one kind though. There are several different type of cloth in this. The lady in the front is making something that is a different color. The gray doesn't match either the red or the blue. But I made it blue for consistency, I couldn't find naval flags of this era that might have corresponded to that shade. There was also a stripy material in the back.
The machines are converted to electricity, though I would imagine they did this by foot at one time. If we could see their legs, we could figure out who was working out there the longest. If they had the legs of a biker, they were probably a senior there.
I thought it was also interesting that everyone had a teacup on their table, presumably for break time. There is also a small plant in a window.
I'm not totally sure where this is, but I think this is on Morris Ave, based on a google maps fly by, its one of the only buildings with arched windows.
