I had a really hard time figuring out what kind of flag that was on the right. It looked like a British flag and yet at the same time it didn't. After asking around we finally decided that it might have been a British Navy Merchant flag. This flag through me off because there was Spanish written on the sign as well.
This giant display was owned by the William Warner company. He invented the sugar coating they used on pills to make them taste slightly better. Now you will hardly taste the arsenic. And it was set up in Philly, PA, in the Centennial Exposition of 1876.
I like the hugeness of this display but didn't like that he didn't seem to balance the shades that well. The bottles seem almost random in some places. The red and blue bottles had labels of different shapes, so I think they were two colors. And red and blue were colors they used then. That said on each of the angled sides of the display weren't consistent labels, so I altered them in the front, and left it plane on each side so my OCD doesn't go crazy.
See those big domes on either side? Those are filled to the top with small pills. I want to lift that dome up to see them scatter. But they anchored it down, there is a nut on the top keeping it together. So instead I'll knock over those show globes.
Those things that looks like giant light bulbs are also filled with pills of some kind. It's like a drug addicts dream.
I'm not really sure if those bottles represent sugar water or what. I'm also not sure what those plates are or what that statue is supposed to be holding.
I'm also curious where that spiral staircase is going. Or what that tower in the center is. Like is that an elevator shaft? I looked it up and they said elevators were starting to be used in the 1850's so its possible.
