This is a long story about a haunting, its best to read what happened on the plain colorized version of this. But I will give you the shorter version (spoilers):
An eye doctor moved into this house with his family. Over the course of a year or so, he heard noises, bells, felt ill (the whole family felt terrible). They heard foot steps, things moving about, but no one was there. Eventually they saw ghosts staring at them, touching them, the plants all died. Past tenants and patients also had the sense of doom and such when they were in the house.
When he described it to his brother, he said that it might be a carbon monoxide leak, and he was right it was, and after it was fixed, no more ghost problem.
Dating this image, I guessed 1920, because many images I had were about from this time. It had a range of 1905-45. The wire in this was twisted, but there were few outlets, none actually, I think it came from the ceiling. The room and furniture is probably from 1890, and the room has a combo of lights embedded in the wall and gas lamps.
The center had a nearly radioactive spot to deal with. It was probably mostly all white and very sunny. The Japanese print on the right was probably the longest part to this, colorizing wise.
