Description
Newburgh, NY - This is the Dard Hunter Mill, but many call it the Gomez Mill. Across the street is the Gomez mill house, due to the Gomez's living there, so by association the mill was named after the house and vice versa. The house was built in the 1600's, but the mill was built in 1913 by a guy named Dard Hunter.
Dard was a paper maker and made books and watermarks on a very small scale. Taking cotton rag and using the mill to pound the life out of it, then turned the mash into paper.
Today it serves as a quaint building, built to look like a Devonshire cottage. He used local bricks and repurposed old barn wood for the rest. The roof is re-thatched every 25 years.

Mike, I really love this little mill, that looks to be made of native materials. One of the best I have seen of all mills that have been submitted over the past years. What a fine piece of artwork and I am happy to announce that this beauty has been chosen for a feature on the homepage of our WFS group. Congratulations for this accomplishment. Well deserved!
