Colorized photo from 1893
Original title: US Army Ordinance Dept Exhibit at the World's Columbian Exposition
Photographer: Unknown
Location: Chicago, IL
I made this because I thought it looked interesting, I like busy scenes, but this thing was insane. I've colored in cities less complex than this, there were so many layers, and dividing them up so it didn't look chaotic was hard.
I'm still not sure what those things in the foreground are. I'm thinking they form bullets. But they have a number of different shaped tops so I'm not sure.
If you look in the background they used bayonets as decorations.
There were a number of weird exhibits, I couldn't read the signs other than the titles, like a sword, or a tree stump, a bunch of random vases.
All those flags represent something, but I couldn't find the colors, so I made them up. So don't rely on them as reference, I'm pretty certain they made up the colors too in colorized prints of the day.
