Description
Colorized photo from 1942
Original title: Pool of small machine ships forming a sub-contracting group for war production
Photographer: Hollem, Howard R
Location: Eustis, FL
This image is related to the government hiring anyone with machine tool experience to build parts for them. They didn't go into detail what they made, or if this was a part of a junk yard or not. There is a lot of debris on the ground, a rake would be a good investment, along with a tetanus shot.
When I saw this I was attracted to the guy with the cutting torch. I think he was just posed there, because I didn't see a flame, but pretty sure he would have been if he wasn't being photographed. I do wonder how easy it was to light that forge on a rainy day, its under a roof, but barely. There is a nice large sheers in the background by the ladder.
The lathes, each model was different, I bet they were bought every 10 years or so going by how they were designed. Many were on belts, some had motors. I'm not sure what they did with that typewriter, or if that coke box had stuff in it. I'm guessing hornets were inside of it.
