It's interesting how a scene ages, this building has been photographed a lot, in black and white alone I found about 10 images, dating back from 1890 when it didn't exist, to present day. Usually updating every 10 years. Watching how the cars change. How the streetcars became buses, all taking the same route.
The building changed a little over they years. It's at least twice the size now, taking up the entire block. They lost the balconies over the years, and the globe lights that surrounded it. There is a photo from the 1930's that showed the Tastee place was a lot smaller, now it takes up the whole first floor. They probably did much better when that became a subway stop (you can't see it but there is a stair case in that clutter of people on the corner).
What I liked about this shot was that lady on the corner. Looking right back at us. And that ad with the bear, they had a whole host of adorable animals advertising their products.
I couldn't find the exact colors for that bus, I found one very close to it, but it didn't curve down the sides like that. They refer to this design as the Jackie Gleason, because its the bus he drove. The rest of the colors are on point, the color was blue as far as I can tell.
