If I didn't tell you that this was downtown Miami, you would think this was a scene from the old west. Maybe its really a scene from the old south?
We are in downtown Miami, to be exact, its Flagler St at the corner of Ave D. The street names changed over they years. Flagler st was once called 12th st, Ave D was renamed to Miami Ave). Yeah its confusing.
For a frame of reference to where this is, that white colored building on the left in the background, exists today. A time traveler would be very confused where everything went
Anyway, on the right is a hotel and a grocery store. On the left in the very back, that Victorian house is really the Halcyon Hotel, or where it stood.
The town in these days was relaxed, dirt roads, horse poop just where ever, it was expected in those days. The rules were relaxed, for example, on the left, someone place a metal awning around the poles. They would not allow that today. I like the detail of adding cobblestone where the horse cart would back in. My guess is it was probably very muddy when it rained.
They did have cars in this era, just only very few. So few in fact that when they gave you a drivers license, you had to make your own plate. They did this till about 1915. You got your number, the one on the street is 3 digits long. It might have been metal, wood, leather or even cardboard. There was no real color coding then, nothing was standard, it was all a do it yourself project.
