Description
Colorized photo from 1893
Original title: Large Ferris wheel at the World's Columbian Exposition
Location: 1130 Midway Plaisance, Chicago, IL
Photographer: Unknown
This was the first Ferris wheel of its kind. Created to rival the Eiffel tower. It stood 264ft tall, and cost 50 cents a ride (about $15 today). The trip took 20 min for twice around the wheel, stopping every 9 minutes to let on and off 6 cars of people. They could carry 1000-2000 people per trip.
The ride was a hit and traveled around till 1906 where it was finally destroyed.
The colors came from nice color prints of the fair I found around the net. They were a creamy yellow with red. The wheel was a green color and the side pieces a brown shade.
The image had a thing on the left that I didn't like, so that was cloned out.
