I'm unclear why they labeled this one with an exact date. Usually this company is really vague when they shot it, but this one was in Sept 1st 1900. Maybe there was an event?
In any case, this is South Wabash ave, the postcards of this one had random colors for the buildings, so I was kind of on my own. The buildings for the most part will all built in 1870-1885 range. The one on the left was originally opened 13 days before the great fire, terrible luck that. It took another 4 years or so to build it again. Knowing when it was built, I went with a peppermint bond (I don't know if that is the normal term, but its what I call it). I find this era liked to add stripes or sections of the building made of concrete and red brick. It added a lot of contrast, and went with that look for many of these buildings.
The train came from postcards, though one showed it as red, the rest were a green shade. All cards showed the tracks as the same shade of red as it is today. I made the terminal bridge thing a green color to keep it consistent with another image I made of this area (Piano Row).
