Normally I don't crop the images, I like seeing what is in the background. But every single version I found online, cropped them, mostly on the marks they provided. I left a little more space around them for breathing room the bigger crop shows their location better.
I was really trying to hard to choose a color for the car that wouldn't clash or blend too much. Green, would have matched the grass, blue would have matched the suit, the other shades didn't fit, so it ended up being red as that was a color they used then. The car is a 1938 Pontiac Silver Streak.
I figured there had to be a reason why they chose that kid for the center. He was the only one not wearing a hat, his suit was more banged up than the others. Its possible the photographer chose him to be the center for that reason. But I decided it was because he was the one with the bright suit, and though its black and white, maybe he saw a sense of color balance and placed him in the center.
The children may not even be friends. According to the kid in the center, Spencer Lee Readus, he was just grabbed from the street along with a few other boys. And yet they look like they were always friends, though maybe a little confused why he wanted their photo. I still wonder who's car that was. You sit on a modern car, and you leave a dent.
