Description
Colorized photo from 1901 Mar
Original Title: Illinois Central Depot
Location: Grant Park, Roosevelt Rd & Michigan Ave
The original image was marked as the year 1900. But after looking at smaller details, this image really came from March or so, 1901. There is a billboard in the background that has April on it, and there is a Pan American poster that happened in 1901. I think its a warmish day with clouds. There is just a bit of light on the right, and its reaching toward the end of the day. You can still see some snow melting by the trees, but there are windows open so its probably a nice day.
Like many other buildings of this era, this one doesn't exist today. It lasted a while, they removed it in 1974. The apartments, probably earlier, they look rough. This view is taken from the South side of Grant Park, looking at it today, there is a city behind that building, and there are no buildings in the park itself. The removed the road there as well. The water is also closer to the park, today its further away as they filled it in with landfill.
I chose a Victorian color theme for the apartments, and the train station, almost always are tan and red with stripes, from this era. The postcards weren't of much help, as they all had different colors for all the buildings.
