This was the Amsterdam Hotel, but it has a bit more history than that. Originally this was the Neff Opera house built in 1880. During this time, half the building was a hotel, at the time called The Warner Hotel, the other half was the theater.
In 1896, the theater had a major fire, which caused $30,000 (close to a million in today's money), and $5000 ($160,000) to the hotel.
In 1925, the Opera House closed, and the space was converted into M Lurie's Department Store. At this time Lurie's owned the entire building. After that the hotel was renamed into what you see here.
From what I am told, the building still exists on this spot, minus the roof, and at least one window is gone. It's hard to tell what was where, because this town had a strip mall planted directly in the middle of Main Street, and many buildings like this were destroyed.
