Remember as a kid, you would get to go to the city with your parents. You would see the lights and all those toys in the windows. Window shopping was one of your only activities as a kid in those days.
You would see all the toys you were never going to get because your parents were too poor and Santa was too big to fit down the chimney.
But you always tried, because you never know, maybe you will actually get that one thing you want. Which is that shiny new velocipede and be the envy of the block. And you had to be clear, and say what you wanted and not just point.
Otherwise it would look like this: You would point, daddy would shake his yes, you would shake your head yes, and come that morning, you would have a shiny new monkey toy waiting for you.
Your parents all cuddled up, watching you open that thing you wanted, and your looking around for your actual gift, the item you actually pointed at. And they are smiling and wondering why you aren't enjoying it, and your like, so... where is the velocipede? And they are like, what are you talking about honey?
And your like, you know, the thing I pointed too...? From that point on, it created a rift in the family and you never spoke to them ever again. It's a sad story, tragic really. So to sum up, always speak up so people know what you want.
