Original Title: White Tavern hamburger stand was the popular place
Location: Corner of E Main St and Church St, Amsterdam, NY
White Tavern or really known as White Tower, was a hamburger franchise that started in the late 20's, more or less copying another place that has a familiar castle shaped building. Serving cheap burgers (5 cents a pop), soda, pie and breakfast needs, they did quite well.
One of its redeeming features was how clean it was, despite the trash on the floor. The building was white inside and out, and all the waitresses were dressed in nurse outfits for the most part. It used turquoise and chrome accents, usually in art deco. Despite being from the 1920's-1940's, it had the look of a 50's diner. Today there are very few left, maybe one or two. This one is located in Amsterdam NY, but its totally gone today.
