Original title: Senate office bldg barber shop
Location: Washington DC
The senate building has its own barbershop. It's used to keep our senators and trimmed. They can get a haircut, manicure, even a shoeshine. For a very long time, we the people paid for all of that and it was only for government people.
Today, they pay their own way, and its open to the public by appointment only. There is a no photography rule, and like everything in the government - it hasn't been updated since around 1960. Naturally this image is much older.
Traditionally for a long time, senators would receive their own shaving mug, comb and brush. They thought that germs would carry over from person to person, so each person would have their own, with their names on it. You can still see these in many older barber shops, usually in a custom made display case. It was a matter of pride for both the barber and the patron.
They don't do this now though, they have lather machines that keeps it all sanitary, and it save tax dollars. They stopped handing them out in the 1970's.
