Description
Colorized photo from 1898
Original title: Interior of a pulque joint
Location: Mexico
This is a pulque bar, that's all they serve.
Pulque is made from fermented agave and spoils in like 24 hours, even with refrigeration. So it makes one wonder how they did it a 100 years ago. Unless the spoiled version is better? The drink is milky in color, sour with a slimy texture.
Many of their bars are colorful, this one probably was as well. I guess without fun colorful bottles like they have in other bars, they had to have some kind of gimmick to attract people. Each barrel has a different painting on it, its hard to know if each one had the same drink. Or if it was fruit based, like you can get today.
The image had a lot of damage, it was a scanned print and had a lot of scraping on parts and scratches in others. The writing that went over the carvings was a pain as well.
