There are many different ways to colorize an image, everyone has their own style, mine is to make them look true to life or painting like. My scenes are full of small details, things that most people miss when making them. Rust, corrosion, scum, a ring on someone's finger, those details make the scene more real looking.
All my images are restored first, I will remove blemishes such as dirt, scratches and missing areas. The image will be straightened as well. The exposure will be corrected to provide maximum detail. Colorizing is created using a Wacom tablet and a pen, I color everything by hand. Using reference material, I source color from that, and make my best judgement what it should look like.
I like to colorize because it allows us to see the past and how much things have advanced or stayed the same. It's a lot of fun finding your hometown and seeing what it looked like a 100 years ago.
