You always wanted a hobby, so one day you started to collect bottle, you did so because they were already sitting there when you moved in. But you realized that to keep them pretty, you have to clean them, and you can't clean the window when the bottles are in the way, so you just left them there.
You rationalize it by saying that they catch the light in a pretty way, and the dirt makes them look even older. And because you have them there, you can say you have a hobby. People see them there and wonder if you have a hobby and start giving you more old bottles. Which you realize aren't that bad, because it gives you an excuse to not having to ever clean the windows off.
You tell people, its my hobby, I collect them. And the filth, simply adds to their charm, and now you have a really large collection, and as a result, daylight no longer enters the house. Which is why we have this, you can see what your bottles look like without any kind of light at all.
