Description
Colorized photo from around 1914
Original Title: Mfr. dolls of bass wood
Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (I think)
After doing some research, I believe this is the workshop of the Schoenhut Doll company. They made basswood dolls in a variety of shapes. Everything made by hand, sold by the dozen, $44 for a box of naked dolls, $66 for clothed ones.
After the depression they couldn't keep up with the new vinyl dolls, nor did the customers like the cheapened version of their new hollow headed dolls. They went out of business by 1935.
