This is the Handley Page H.P.42 airplane. Built in 1928, they flew until 1940. Imperial Airways designed these planes and only 8 were ever built.
The designation of each plane all had a name that started with an H. This particular planes name was Hanno (of Hanno the Navigator).
These planes were designed for long range eastern routes. They wanted a plane that could fly at slow speeds and land safely (a good goal). With a top speed of around 90mph, which is not very fast. And as a result of this speed, everyone inside felt all the turbulence. To top it of, that had to refuel frequently in places like this. I don't believe it was pressurized either.
A few of these planes even entered WWII. These planes never had an accident in the air. In 1940 however, there was a strong gust on the tarmac and this plane blew into another one, destroying them.
